✶ This case study examines icon design fundamentals using Figma, focusing on grid and key-line techniques for professional results.

  • Standard 24×24 pixel grid provides consistent foundation

  • Key shapes (circles, rectangles, squares) contained within a 20×20 pixel area

  • 4-pixel margin around icons creates essential touch area buffer

By following these structured principles, I have created visually cohesive icon sets that maintain proper balance and functionality across all applications.

Don't trust the (design) process

By Jenny Wen

As a designer involved closely in the product development process at my current job, I really resonated with her notes on how messy the design process can be. This article has stayed with me ever since I read it.

The art of not naming your layers with Inga Hampton

By Inga Hampton, Config 2025

With everything happening around AI and all these automated tools, her talk reminded me to just be myself and find what keeps my creativity alive. It really helped me breathe after being overwhelmed by the pressure to keep up with trends. I have been following her works since then and she is an amazingly talented designer.

Embracing art to enhance your product

By Megan Barker, Robert Managad, Anna Gusman (Config 2023)

A super fun talk by Duolingo’s designers about how they worked together to bring the brand characters to life, making the whole learning experience way more fun and memorable.

The making of a product icon

From Figma's editorial newsletter

A recent read from Figma’s editorial newsletter on the process of designing Figma’s own icon set. While I haven’t gone deep into icon design yet, I’ve always been curious about it (I even created a small icon set in Figma before ^^). This article was the perfect read to gain more insight into how brand icons are thoughtfully crafted.

By Dan Saffer

I often hear people say and also been told that AI will soon take over our jobs - especially in design. This article offers a refreshing perspective on how UI is evolving, adapting, and collaborating with AI rather than being replaced by it.
